Мы также проанализировали лексику, в которой отражены темпоральные аспекты вне зависимости от культурно-исторических условий.
При анализе употребления темпорально-маркированной лексики на обозначение времени суток, мы выявили следующие закономерности:
1) употребление 31 лексемы «night». Например:
“It was fight or look on, all day and every day; and sing, gamble, dance, carouse half the night every night. [33]”
2) употребление 30 лексем «morning». Например:
“There were a good many thousand tracks in the mud the next morning, but they were all outward bound [33].”
В добавок, часто употребляется сокращенная форма слова “morning” – “morn”
“On the morn Sir Launcelot arose early…”
“So on the morn they heard their masses in the abbey, and so they rode forth till they came to a great forest; then was Sir Gawaine ware in a valley by a turret”
3) употребление 17 лексем «afternoon». Например:
“When I brought my procession of human bats up into the open world and the glare of the afternoon sunpreviously blindfolding them, in charity for eyes so long untortured by light-they were a spectacle to look at [33].”
4) употребление 8 лексем «evening». Например:
“I ordered that the things be carted out and delivered at the dwelling of Marco, the son of Marco, by Saturday evening, and send me the bill at dinner-time Sunday [33].”
5) употребление 1 лексемы «eve»
“Of the ladies, the worst spectacle was a lovely young duchess, whose wedding-eve this was…”
Еще одним интересным моментом стало устаревшее написание слова «to-day». Значение у него, такое же, как и в современном понятии – «сегодня». Но написание, устаревшее.
“…you must be slain to-day, while your enchantments are but in the weaving and lack potency.”
Анализ использования слов «year», «epoch», «era» показал, что темпорально-маркированная лексема «era» употребляется только единожды. Рассмотрим соответствующий пример:
“As he talked along, softly, pleasantly, flowingly, he seemed to drift away imperceptibly out of this world and time, and into some remote era and old forgotten country [33].”
Примеров использования лексемы «epoch» мы не обнаружили. Однако другая лексема ‒ «year» ‒ употребляется 19 раз. Например:
“"And according to your notions, what year is it now?" "528-nineteenth of June." [33]
Далее мы обратили внимание на употребление теморально-маркированных лексем «seconds», «minute» и «hour». Это привело нас к выводу о подавляющем большинстве использования последней из вышеупомянутых лексем. Например:
“A quarter of an hour later I ascended the parapet and there found the king and the court assembled and gazing off in the darkness toward Merlin's Tower [33].”
Данная лексема встречается 22 раза. Слово «minute», в свою очередь, встречается 16 раз. Обратим внимание на один из примеров:
“In a minute a third slave was struggling in the air [33].”
Лексема «seconds» употребляется всего 4 раза. Тем не менее, это не умаляет стилистического эффекта передачи юмора. К примеру:
“I timed him with a stop watch, and he made 1,244 revolutions in 24 minutes and 46 seconds [33].”
Наконец, нами был проведен анализ темпорально-маркированной лексики на обозначение времен года. Как выяснилось, 36 лексем М. Твеном было употреблено для передачи информации о событиях, происходивших в зимнее время, 2 ‒ летнее и только по одной ‒ весеннее и осеннее, соответственно. Рассмотрим некоторые из примеров:
“"The second damsel was of thirty winter of age, with a circlet of gold about her head. The third damsel was but fifteen year of age [33].”
“How the thought of her carries me back over wide seas of memory to a vague dim time, a happy time, so many, many centuries hence, when I used to wake in the soft summer mornings[33].”
“Straight off, we were in the country. It was most lovely and pleasant in those sylvan solitudes in the early cool morning in the first freshness of autumn [33].”
“…it was balmy and beautiful spring weather now, and Nature was all tailored out in her new clothes [33].”
