Ummi Kemal As A Common Heritage Of Circassian And Anatolian Nations
Ümmî Kemal (1375-1475) is recognized as a sufi poet and his real name is İsmail. According to some researchers he came to Anatolia from Horasan and according to others he was born in Anatolia, in the city “Karaman”.
It is known that he was grown up in religion-mysticism-art environment which named as “Central Anatolia School” ( İç Anadolu Mektebi) and he has been in Dag­hestan, Crimea, Azerbaijan, Tatarstan, Uzbekistan, Turkey and Arabian countries for different reasons.
He died in 1475. We know that there are his graves/places in Karaman, Manisa, Niğde and Bolu. He has a divan and there is a menakıbname written about him. Hayati Yavuzer (1997) and Ramazan Sarıçiçek (1997) are the academics who have written doctorate work about him. In their works written that his divan was published in 19^th century in Central Asia. And also in their works they say that there are some information about his place of birth that he was born in Central Asia or Circassia but also they say that they couldn’t reach any document about it.
Azerbaijani researchers identified that his divan has fifteen manuscript copies in Turkey, Germany, Russia, Italy and some other countries. Newly in 2003 identified a new manuscript copy of the divan in Azerbaijan.
In the children literature book “Swallow” which is published in 2002, in Mahackala; the first Kumuk poet is Ümmi Kemal. In the book it is written that he is Kumuk and he was born in Koyunkala in Daghestan. The writer reaches to this information from his poems.
Ümmi Kemal is known and still is reading by people and still his poems are publishing especially in Circassia and Anatolia. In this notification, we will express Ümmi Kemal’s life story, his religious circle, his effects in Anatolia and Circassia in the light of last studies.
