Last years of life

Arriving in his homeland,Gogol seeks to get to know Russia more closely and deeply in order to successfully complete the second volume of "Dead Souls".He reads a lot,travels from Moscow, where he lives, to Odessa, to his Vasilyevka.But he cannot understand the meaning of the social struggle that was taking place in Russia at that time.And the environment he was in only served to strengthen him on the wrong path.
At the end of 1851, Gogol finished the second volume of Dead Souls.But at this time Gogol was physically ill and mentally depressed.On the night of February 11, 1852, Gogol burned the finished manuscript of the second volume of Dead Souls.
Ten days later,on the morning of February 21, Gogol died.
The funeral of Gogol turned into a demonstration of popular love for the writer, who with his works of art fought against the autocratic-serf system and contributed to the development of public consciousness in Russia. "The whole of Moscow was on this sad holiday,"he recalled
one of my contemporaries. "Who's being buried?"A passerby who met the funeral procession asked, " are these all the relatives of the deceased?"
"They are burying Gogol," replied one of the young students who followed the coffin, " and we are all his blood relatives, and the whole of Russia is with us."

This is not how the government reacted to Gogol's death.Turgenev некролог,was sent to his estate without the right to leave for an obituary published in a Moscow newspaper,the publication of a new edition of Gogol's works was banned,and the name of Gogol became forbidden.

But all attempts of the government of Nicholas I to " ban " Gogol were in vain.His artistic works, correctly interpreted by the great critics of the time Belinsky and Chernyshevsky, had a great influence on the development of progressive Russian literature and were lovingly acceptedby the public.


Conclusion
The name of Gogol has forever entered the treasury of Russian literature.It will never be forgotten by his descendants, for whom he lived,created,and created.His works today are a huge storehouse of wisdom, humane attitude towards people, inexhaustible love for his native land.We, the younger generation, learn from Gogol's works and preserve his memory in order to pass on his legacy to future readers.
