• Teacher is one of the most honourable and at the same time one of the most responsible professions worldwide. Teachers account for younger generation’s perfection and their development. It is insufficient for a teacher just to know his subject, he should also know pedagogics and psychology.

• They say “teacher is not work, it is duty. You should be a teacher twenty four hours without breaks and weekends”. Teacher is always at the centre of attention of pupils, their parents and those around him and that’s why a teacher should keep in mind every time, that responsibility for every word and lesson lies with him. A good teacher passes the difficult way of formation of his personality together with his children, imparting them his knowledge, energy and soul. So in my opinion in the course of his work teacher perfects his inborn abilities and becomes a master of his work.

So what makes a good teacher? Let’s try to answer this question!

• At first teacher’s profession demands from him the ability to express his opinions competently, expressively and in a clear way. Among the main professional qualities of the teacher are objectivity, persistence and consideration. Every teacher should keep busy himself with self-perfection: to read a lot, to take part in different contests, to be ready for raising the level of his skills and professional development.

Secondly, professional success of a teacher depends to a greater extent on personal qualities of the teacher, such as even temper, tolerance, interest and respect towards other people, tact, artistry, firmness of purpose and yearning for self-development. The important professional trait of a teacher is love for children.

• Thirdly, a good teacher should be able to maintain discipline without taking extreme measures and without hurting pupils’ self-esteem. A good teacher should be on the pupils’ wavelength in order to understand them and to treat them as they are.

And at last a good teacher is who likes his work and devoted to it. It is not a question of money, prestige or something else, it is a question of love for teaching.

But the truth is that the composite ideal teacher with infinite knowledge and energy, impeccable teaching techniques, a sense of humour and a talent for discipline, along with personal charm and eternal patience, may seem rather hard to imagine. A good teacher is someone who tries to meet all the requirements and to have all the abilities I have enumerated. But I understand that teachers are only people, like every one.
