ShavkatMirziyoyev was born on July 24, 1957, in Zaamin district of Jizzakh
region in the family of
doctors. His father was a head doctor in tuberculosis dispenser in Jizzakh region. His mother was a
nurse. She dead early from tuberculosis of bones. He has three sisters and brother. He is an ethnic
Uzbek, and holds higher education. Thus, in 1981 he graduated from the Tashkent Institute of
Engineers of Irrigation and Mechanization of Agriculture, and received
a degree in mechanical
engineer. Holds a title of Academic Candidate (PhD) in Technical Sciences, and Associate
Professor.
ShavkatMirziyoyev started his career in 1981 at the Tashkent Institute of Engineers of Irrigation
and Mechanization of Agriculture, where he worked as a junior research fellow, senior lecturer,
associate professor, and eventually Vice Rector for academic affairs.
In 1990, he was elected deputy of the Supreme Council of the republic, and
at the same time served
as Chairman of the Credentials Committee.
In 1992, ShavkatMirziyoyevwas appointedhokim (governor) of MirzoUlugbek district of Tashkent
city. In 1996-2001, he worked as hokim of Jizzakh region, in 2001-2003
hokim of Samarkand
region, and made a great contribution to the socio-economic development of the above-mentioned
districts and regions.
While working in the executive branch, at the same time as deputy of the OliyMajlis of the
Republic of Uzbekistan in 1995-2003, he was actively and fruitfully involved
in the elaboration and
adoption of important legislative acts directed at the political and socio-economic development of
the country and the implementation of democratic reforms.
ShavkatMirziyoyevwas approved as the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2003, and
three times (in 2005, 2010, and 2015) was reapproved in his post by both houses of the OliyMajlis.
After death of First President ShavkatMirziyoyev became acting President of Uzbekistan. Then at
the elections, he scored more than 88 % of votes and since 14 December 2016, he is President of
Uzbekistan.
Mirziyoyev is married
and has two daughters, one son and five grandchildren. His wife, Z.M.
Hoshimova, has a qualification of an engineer-economist, currently homemaker.
