THE BENEFITS OF THE SPEAKING CLUB

English is used so commonly and widely in international business community. Therefore, it 
is considered as one of the golden keys to open the gate of success for most employees nowadays. If 
one is well-equipped with professional knowledge, soft skills, informatics technology skill, 
especially English language skills, he will get a better-paid and more benefits job than others. As 
the result, English has become one of the obligatory subjects in Colleges and Universities in order 
to equip English skills for students before graduating. Besides, an extra-curriculum activity - 
English Speaking Club is held in most of the Universities and Colleges in general, and in College of 
Finance and Customs in particular. CFC English Speaking Club has been creating a playground 
where students have chances to increase social interaction with people who have common hobbies 
and English competence, developing Students’ English skills as well as improving students’ 
working skills. 
Becoming a member of a social club like English Speaking club holds numerous benefits. 
The most obvious of these is that the club is a healthy playground where students can increase 
social interaction with friends who have common hobbies and English competence. The club helps 
students form relationship with peers who share their interests. The club serves as a positive and 
really fresh place for students to socialize on weekends. When taking part in the club, they are 
encouraged to communicate with new members who they haven’t met before or talked previous 
times. After a while, they are told to switch their partners and start new conversations with a new 
one. Students can broaden their friendship because the club warmly welcomes all participants not 
only from the classes of the school but also from several universities nearby. Therefore, they have a 
lot of chances to talk to many different and new friends. Up to now, CFC English Speaking Club 
has invited the participation of the two clubs from the University of Transport and Communications 
and the US Language School. Thanks for the frequent holding of the clubs and the visiting of new 
friends, students can have better social relationship skills which are so useful afterwards. In the long 
run, the club holders are going to keep cooperating with trustful outside organizations to hold 
several interesting programs like Ring The Golden Bell in English, The Speech Contest 
competitions, English song Festival, English Summer camps and so forth with the hope of bringing 
a good and safe environment of meeting new friends and using English to all students of College of 
Finance and Customs. 
Another leading benefit of joining English speaking club is that it can help develop students’ 
English skills. By talking in English with new friends in the club, students have great time to 
sharpen their English skills, especially listening and speaking in a total English environment. 
English club holders design many different and interesting activities included: warm-up, discussion, 
presentation and games in order to stimulate students’ participation. Due to warm-up activities, 
students’ brains are activated by reminding the titles of English songs, thinking about as many 
English words as possible…….related to a certain topic. Through the discussion and presentation

activities, students have a lot of opportunities to practice speaking and listening skills with teachers 
of English and with friends who love English. Discussion brings a really exciting and stimulating 
time since the questions are designed based on realistic and familiar situations. When coming to the 
club, students can discuss from personal topics like family, hobbies, travelling, ambitions, 
learning…..to social concerns like traffic, student love, holidays…….in English. It is really a great 
and meaningful time to rehearse English vocabulary, grammar and use English to communicate 
more efficiently. Healthy topics encourage students to practice English skills and to be part of 
positive and right attitude instead of many negative influences in personal and social issues. 
Students also benefit from joining English Speaking club by gaining problem-solving abilities, idea-
expressing, presentation skills. That’s the reason why the club holders try to create lots of different 
and stimulating activities included games, karaoke contest, songs, and funny clips and so on to 
attract the enthusiastic participation of all club members. Especially, the games require 
participants’cooperation in order to achieve common goals. If the students do not work in groups, 
their team hardly wins the games. Students will learn to work as a team and become a good team 
player gradually when taking part in these activities..
