   Introduction
   

I feel exceptionally humbled and honoured to be given the rare privilege and once in a life time opportunity to deliver the First Inaugural Lecture of Veritas University, Abuja. The significance of this epoch and momentous occasion is not lost on me. In accepting this intellectual burden, I have chosen to speak on two areas which hold my passion and which drive my intellectual instincts and efforts which I have enveloped in the title of the lecture: “Of New Englishes and New Literacies”.
