NATIONAL COSTUMES AND DISHES OF EASTERN COUNTRIES
Eastern world is comprised of nations in Asia including the Middle East whereas Western world refers to North and South America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. East and West may have myriad differences based on culture and education. These differences can be noted for the most part in people’s behavior and attitudes. The major difference between eastern and western culture is that people in the east are more conservative and traditional than the general population in the west. Eastern Culture (refer to the culture map above) has these characteristics listed below:
Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Shenism, Taoism, and Islam are some common religions practiced in the Eastern world.
The population in Eastern countries is more traditional than people in the West when we consider their clothing, rituals, and so on. For example, Indians pay respect to their elders or parents by touching their feet. East Asians bow as a gesture of welcoming guests, apologizing and expressing thank you.
People in the East are commonly inflexible in their beliefs and ideologies. They do not easily compromise nor question the long practiced customs and traditions.
LIVING IN EASTERN COUNTRIES
East Asian cultures do have influence on each other. Their languages and alphabets have great similarities and similar roots, for example. But it would be ridiculous to suggest that the cultures of East Asia are the same; on the contrary, they're very different.
East Asia is an area usually considered to include China, Japan, North Korea, and South Korea. These countries have overlapping ethnic heritages if you go back far enough, but their countries are drastically different. One look at their political and economic systems tells you that: Japan is a capitalist democracy, very much modeled on Western democracies, like the United States. China is a communist dictatorship; yet, it has city areas where free market ideals have been adopted. South Korea has, since the Korean War, thrived as another Western-style democracy and economy, yet remains much poorer than Japan, and North Korea is probably the most extreme communist regime in the world, with no capitalist structures and closed doors to the world.
While, culturally, they may have some things in common, life in these countries is drastically different from one another. Today, we'll go over each and talk a little about what life there is like.
