It is often argued that the extinction of certain flora and fauna is one of the most important and pressing problems these days. I am of the opinion that this argument is reasonable. However, there are other people who find other environmental problems more necessary.

There can be several reasons why environmental issues are demanded to be paid more attention. Firstly, all the kinds of pollution such as water, air, soil are currently the major problems that have negative impact on both nature and mankind. Due to high levels of pollution in lakes and oceans caused by chemical spills, marine life has started to diminish. Apart from this, respiratory diseases are 70% triggered by dirty air that people breathe on a daily basis. Considering the upcoming effects, these ecological issues can be regarded as the first problems to be dealt with rather than animals and plants.

However, there are several compelling reasons highlighting the importance of particular animals and plants. One of them is potential threat to the development of medicine owing to lacking the genes for the production of medication taken from those species. For example, some of deer species are known to have a gene called p53 that struggles against cancer and serves as a detterent against some incurable ilnesses meaning that they should be hindered from extinction as much as possible. In addition, the more flora and fauna disappears, the more ecosystem suffers because of changes in the food chain. For instance, if birds are omitted from food web, the hunters like coyotes, cats may have to struggle against starvation as well as human whose crops may be unable to be fertile enough owing to excessively multiplied insects.

In conclusion, current environmental issues have direct impact on the quality of life in both present and future but I feel that the disappearance of species can be even more hazardous than that.
