IELTS Writing Introduction
In IELTS Writing section, you will be given 1 hour. In 1 hour, you have to accomplish 2 tasks: Writing Task 1 and Writing Task 2. Task 1 is a diagram and Task 2 is essay. It is recommended to spend 20 minutes on Task 1 and 40 minutes on Task 2. Here you will learn about Task 1. It seems so easy to complete Task 1 in 20 minutes, isn’t it? But, you should know that without having good structure you cannot get high score in this Task.
In Task 1, you will be asked to describe the rubric. A case in point is that you will be given diagram about growth of population in China. Your report should be based on diagram, I mean, you do not have to write “ Chinese people live longer compared to other nations and therefore, they are increasing in numbers”.
So, in this task there are not many rules you should pay attention to. Firstly, you should write at least 150 words. In my opinion, to get better score in this task(7.5-8.0), you ought to write around 200-210 words.
How they estimate you? How they put a fair score to your essay?
Let us have a look at the estimation diagram below
Well, why I divided above diagram into two? If you score from 6.0 to 9.0, this means you already have good structure in your Writing and the rules that you have to pay attention are few than the candidates who score between 0 and 5.0.
However, the way of assessment in IELTS is still abstract as examiners never tell how they evaluate your score. Abovementioned estimation is probably similar to real one.
In case you are interested in, there are four sections you should also take care of:
1. Task Achievement (25%)
2. Coherence and Cohesion (25%)
3. Lexical Resource (25%)
4. Grammatical Range and Accuracy (25%)
Task Achievement: This is a place where your response to the task will be assessed, How you fulfill the task? This is the main question in this category. So, you should always base your answer on this question.
Coherence and Cohesion: This is how you organize your paragraphs? How your essay flows from the beginning to the end.
