Astronaut ( US : astronaut , Russian : cosmonaut , Chinese : taikonavt ) is a person trained to serve as a member of a spacecraft crew. Astronauts work in space, and those who travel in space are called space travelers . The first astronaut was Yuri Gagarin .

Cosmonaut(space and Greek nautes – navigator), astronaut – a specially trained person who flies into space on a spaceship (TC) and tests and uses space technology; a profession that emerged after man flew into space (1961).
