One Blind Beggar

Mark 10:46


In Matt. 20 there were 2 blind men. Mark’s narration gives the account of one of them.

We don’t know why this man was blind; at birth or accident.

In our worse conditions God still want to use you.
ILL. The “best” of people that die and go to hell. A blind man can do SO much.

ILL. This is for the glory of God. That’s why we’re here.
Here is a picture of one getting saved.
I. CROWD (v. 46) И пришли они в Иерихон: и когда выходил он из Иерихона с учениками своими и великим числом народа

1. The majority will always be ‘around’ but are not interested.

i. They are the ‘critics.’

ii. They always hear about some kind of a miracle that took place but never “get it.”


ILL. At New Poschta, a man that received a tract.

The invitation has been given even after they’ve seen Christ do many miracles. They’ll always hear but the go no further.


2. The cold and chilling repulse which he met with, not from Jesus but from the bystanders


III. CHARACTER OF BLIND BARTIMAEUS (v. 46) слепой Вартимей

1. He’s blind. He can’t see the beautiful scenery of Jericho; a city of Palm trees.


i. Typifies the sinner lost; blind the his surroundings. He sees an accident but doesn’t see God’s mercy that it didn’t happen to him.

ILL. You talk about the wonders of heaven. It doesn’t sink in to a lost man.

ILL. A blind man walking along a cliff and doesn’t know of the danger of a fall.
ILL. A blind man has to hold on to things close to him. He see as a distance afar off.
ILL. A beautiful sunrise. A blind man cannot see that.

ILL. You don’t know what is in a new store, until you go in. You’ve got to ‘get in.’



II. CALAMITY

v. 46 слепой Вартимей, сын Тимея, сидел у обочины большой дороги, прося подаяния.

He was a pauper. “Begging” was his business.
1) попрошайка, нищий 2) неимущий, бедняк
1. When he was a small boy he had toys to play with.

2. He still needed help from others.

3. He gets older. His things are still “tinkets.”
ILL. The older you get the more you need to SATISFY you. They still cannot SATISFY you; even the best things of this world.
4. There is a whole there that can never be satisfied.
ILL. A beggar on his deathbed still needs help.

ILL. Mr. Landis – he had is religion, Judaism.

ILL. Beethoven – went deaf. He had his music. He died not satisfied.

ILL. Jimi Hendrix died before he was 30.

Viktor Tsoi - Died in a car accident, when his car collided with a bus at high speed. The investigation concluded that Tsoi wasn't drunken.




III. CHANCE (v. 47)

И когда он услышал, что это Иисус из Назарета, он начал кричать, и говорить, Иисус, Сын Давида, смилуйся надо мной.

1. Jesus passed by his way.

2. Blind Bartimaeus had a chance.

3. He knew he was in trouble.



IV CONTENTION (v. 48)

И многие велели ему, чтобы молчал: но он еще больше кричал, Сын Давида, смилуйся надо мной.

There is no evidence that he had any friends who cared for him;

they would have made themselves conspicuous after his cure, if there had been many of them.

He was hopeless.

It was impossible for him to do anything;

he could not see to learn a trade. He was unpopular.

Anybody had a right to snub him, the moment he said a word


ILL. “Don’t be a fool.” “Don’t be a fanatic!” “You’re going too far.”
1. When you see the mercy of God others will resist you (1 Cor. 4:9, 10).
ILL. God had mercy on Moses. He was a murderer. He was called to preach the word of God.

ILL. Others would say, “He can’t even talk right.”
ILL. There’s no ‘knock’ on heavens doors that the devils won’t try to resist.

2. Opposition may be –

i. a TV going while trying to witness.

ii. The phone rings when trying to witness.

iii. a promotion – more money.

iv. More popularity – “Be accepted”

v. Criticism –

vi. Distractions –


ILL. A nurse came in the room to give a patient a shot. The preacher said, “Please wait. I need to talk to this man.”
V. THE CAPTAIN

1. He stood still. И Иисус остановился

i. He was on His way to Jerusalem. “Stop”
2. He commanded и велел его позвать. И зовут слепого, говоря ему, Утешься, вставай;
3. He called. он зовет тебя.

i. He’s called “the captain” Ибо подобало ему, для которого всё, и которым всё, в приведении многих сынов к славе, сделать капитана их спасения совершенным через страдания.

ii. He’s the author of eternal salvation

Heb. 5:9 И сделавшись совершенным, стал автором вечного спасения для всех тех, кто слушается его;


The value of one soul is more valuable than one soul.

With all the stuff going on


You don’t need any other reason. The Saviour is calling you!

Isn’t that enough?


You can’t blame God for you going to hell. He’s calling.

The Only One that gives you life. You’ll reject Him.



VI. THE CONDITION (v. 51)

И Иисус ответил и сказал ему, Чего ты хочешь, чтобы я сделал тебе? Слепой сказал ему, Господь, чтобы мне прозреть.


1. As if the Lord doesn’t know what Bartimaeus wants?
2. He wants to hear it from the sinner. What do you want?

i. He wants to hear the sinner know his sinful condition.


3. Admit the need.

i. Rev. 3:17 covetous, no temperance, etc.

“I don’t need any help.”

“I’m not wrong.”

“My marriage is on the rocks.”

“I’m not a bad person.”

ii. Sin blinds (2 Cor. 4:4)

iii. Sin deceives (Heb. 3:13).


4. He knew of his wrong (v. 50).

i. All mankind has a garment of self-righteousness. Give it up!


The sinner rejects as idle encumbrances his self-righteousness and self-indulgence, which have clung to him as his second self, and rushes alone into the arms of a compassionate Saviour.

VII. CHANGE, CURE

И Иисус сказал ему, Иди своим путем; вера твоя сделала тебя здоровым. И тотчас он прозрел, и последовал за Иисусом в путь.


Once more, notice Bartimeus’s cure (Mar_10:52).

It was instantaneous-“immediately.”

It was perfect-“whole.” It was sovereign-“go thy way.”

It was complete, including salvation-“thy faith hath saved thee” (see Luk_18:42).

1. What a ‘deal.’ Сделка
APPLICATION:

1. Look what He’s done for you today Christian.

The many times we’ve been reminded about how Jesus died for you.

How He suffered for you.

How He has answered so many prayers.
Sinner

Jesus has come by your way sinner.



Trust him today.
Invitation

Give up your self-righteousness.
