Hackettstown High School
Hackettstown, NJ 07840
6 September 2016
To the parents/guardians of our students,
I would like to extend personal greetings to you as well as inform you of our educational goals for the English I curriculum at Hackettstown High School. I would also like to identify the school’s expectations concerning summer reading to leave you and your student feeling confident for a successful 2016-17 school year.
Please review your son/daughter’s syllabus for the list of units and their tentative dates of study. Students will have daily homework, outside reading, papers, traditional tests, and a variety of projects and assignments due for our class. Should you like to reach me during the day, you can call my school voice mail at 908.852.6214 ext. 811 or email me at school creddy@hackettstown.org (cmcewan@hackettstown.org).
With a major in English Writing bachelor’s degree and a Standard Certificate for a Teacher of English, K-12 from William Paterson University, I will begin my sixth year in education and fifth as a member of Hackettstown’s English Department. I am also continuing my education enrolled in William Paterson University’s English Literature graduate program. Living in Northern New Jersey, I completed my student teaching internship at Lenape Valley Regional High School in Stanhope, NJ on December 2010. During my time there, I taught two ninth grade honor classes, one tenth grade college preparatory class, and one twelfth grade college preparatory class. During the 2011-2012 school year, I replaced a teacher’s maternity leave in Somerset, NJ for seven months and taught three seventh grade English Language Arts classes at Central Jersey College Preparatory Charter School. For the past four years at Hackettstown High School, I instructed English I honors, English I college preparatory, and English I college preparatory advanced classes as I will continue to this year.
I feel I can speak on behalf of our department and our school when I say we are looking forward to a challenging and rewarding school year. Academically, our year begins with an evaluation of how your son/daughter read and understood the concepts of the assigned summer assignment of O Pioneers!. Your student should have brought all summer reading materials to class for the first couple days of school. As with all assignments, I hope you will take an active role in his/her learning. Because plagiarism and cheating handicaps the learning process, our department asks that you review the school code of conduct concerning plagiarism in the student handbook and talk with your student about both what cheating is and its consequences.
Please take a moment to sign the form below and have your student return it the following day. This will be your student's first grade of our new school year. And, again, thank you.
Sincerely yours,
Celeste A. Reddy
