On the one hand, individuals and the society real several advantages by purchasing consumer goods. To begin with, thanks to the time-saving machines, people are time-rich. For instance, using mobile phones instead of the service offered by the post office in order to send an important message can actually save one’s valuable time. Secondly, the more people buy consumer goods, irrefutably, the more income is likely to be received, therefore creating both a buoyant economy and a powerful society. Finally, as demand rises, more products have to be provided, which can lead to the opening of extra job vacancies, since industries will need more recruits.

On the other hand, this development does no longer come without its demerits. The first one is associated with people’s personality: it appears that they will become materialistic. Individuals, in other words, might aimlessly spend much amount of money on end products thinking that it will be better for them if they buy such ‘handy’ goods. Furthermore, this trend can exacerbate the problem of the environment when industries expand so as to supply people with necessary items. Exhaust fumes coming from factories, to illustrate, have by far the most significant proportion in air pollution.

In summary, despite having some considerable merits including saved time, improved economy, and extra job offers, there are also numerous negative sides of utilizing more consumer commodities namely materialism and environmental issues.
