The aim:

By the end of the lesson students will be able: to demonstrate knowledge of what synthesis essay is; to synthesize information from several sources to gain a comprehensive understanding of a topic.

  • Synthesizing sources

  • Composing a thesis or claim

  • Formatting the essay

  • Talking with the texts




Activity type:

Individual, small group, whole class ( teacher-students)


Warm – up. (10 min.)

Procedure:

Concepts taught: importance of learning synthesis essay



Strategies:

Direct teaching, Individual Activity and Group Activity



Context

In this lesson students can practice to draw facts, ideas, information—any relevant evidence they can use to bolster the essay.



Lead in (5 min):

Teacher put question to students:



  • Do you think some video games endorse violence and other unlawful actions?

Student respond

You do? Can you think of three examples?

Student give examples


  • Teacher tells the students that this question was connected with the Synthesis Essay writing
