Biking Routes Around Woodstock
There is no biking within Marsh Billings Rockefeller National Historical Park. However there are biking options around the park and around Woodstock. Descriptions of some of the most popular routes are listed below, with a highlighted road map showing the routes on the other side.
Safety Note: Most of the routes below are a mix of paved roads and gravel roads, with no bike paths and often no shoulders. Avoid Route 4 since it has heavy truck traffic. Think Safety and Share the Road.
Along the Ottauquechee River

Easiest Route – Flat and follows dirt and paved back roads along the river.

Length – 4 miles (one way) to Taftsville Covered Bridge, another 4.5 miles (one way) to Dewey Pond

irections – From the Billings Farm and Museum parking lot turn right onto River Road. At the Taftsville covered bridge go uphill for a very short bit then along the river until River Road becomes Main Street in Quechee. Go through the village to reach Dewey Pond near the Quechee Gorge.
Circling the Park

Moderate Route – Includes paved state highway and a steep down hill section on a gravel road.

Length – 6.7 round trip.

irections – Follow Route 12N 2.7 miles past the Billings Farm and Museum Parking Lot. Turn left onto Prosper Road. Go 2.5 miles on the gravel Prosper Road starting gently up, and then going very steeply down in a narrow section of road. Turn left onto Route 4 and follow it through Woodstock, turning left in town at Route 12N to complete the circle.
Around Blake Hill

Moderate Route – Mainly dirt roads that begin flat, but then go up and down hills.

Length – 8.5 miles round trip.

Directions – From the Billings Farm and Museum parking lot turn right onto River Road, go 4 miles to the Taftsville covered bridge. Cross the bridge going right, then cross Route 4 onto Happy Valley Road, go up for 2 miles then turn right onto Creamery Hill Rd./Hartland Hill Rd. and ride down to Woodstock Village.
To Lincoln Bridge

asy Route– Short hill to begin, but then a level ride.

Length – 4.5 miles to Lincoln Covered Bridge

Directions – start at the west end of the Village Green and take College Hill Rd. up to Carleton Hill Rd. Continue for 3 miles, then turn right onto Bridges Road. You’ll end at the covered bridge. If you cross the bridge you return to Woodstock along busy Route 4, or return the way you came.
To South Woodstock and Back

Moderate Route– Includes paved state highway and a climb up and down Meetinghouse Hill on a gravel road.

Length – 5 miles to South Woodstock, 5 miles back along Church Hill Rd.

irections – start at the Village Green going south on Route 106, in 4.5 miles there will be sharp turns right before South Woodstock. At the small village turn right onto Church Hill Rd climbing to the top in a mile, then go downhill for the last 4 miles to return at the Village Green.
