The word genealogy is derived from the Greek, and means the study of family history and descent. The basic objectives of genealogical research are to identify ancestors and their family relationship. At basic level, you will identify and record the following for each individual in your family tree.

  Date and place of marriage

  Names of children
  
• 
  Date and place of death
  

From here you will learn more about the lives and times of your ancestors and be able to flesh out the facts into a family history.

   Work in pairs. Make up at least five questions of your own to ask about your partners ancestors. Each question should help you to gain information about his/her family’s cultural background.

   Make a dialogue and act. In order to find out information about your heritages conduct an interview with your family member (parents, grandmother, and grandfather). Work with your partner.
