A. Study the active terms:

windpipe - the tube in the body which carries air from the upper end of the throat to the lungs

larynx - the upper part of the windpipe

vocal cords - a pair of folds at the upper end of the throat which produce sound when air from the lungs moves over them

the glottis - the space between the vocal cords

voiced - consonants which are produced by making the vocal cords vibrate.

voiceless - consonants which are produced by making the vocal cords be not in vibration.

pharynx - the soft part at the top of the throat which connects the mouth and nose.

mouth cavity - the space which contains the teeth and the tongue.

nasal cavity - the space which contains the whole inside part of the nose.

soft palate - the soft piece of muscle and tissue that forms the top of the mouth at the back,

separating the passages behind the nose from the throat

oral - related to the mouth

nasal - related to the nose

obstruction - something that blocks a road, passage, entrance, etc.

consonants - speech sounds produced by humans when the breath flows out through the mouth with being blocked by the teeth, tongue or lips

vowels - speech sounds produced by humans when the breath flows out through the mouth without being blocked by the teeth, tongue or lips

plosive - such consonants like /p, b, t, d, k/ g which are produced with the air passage blocked fully.

fricative - such consonants like /s, z, f, v, ɜ, ʃ/ which are produced with the air passage blocked not fully.
