Special competence — preparedness for independent implementation of specific types 
of activities, the ability to solve typical professional tasks and evaluate the results of
their work, the ability to independently acquire new knowledge and skills in the 
specialty; 
Personal competence — the ability to continuous professional development and 
professional development, as well as the realization of oneself in professional work; 
Auto-competence — an adequate understanding of their social and professional
characteristics and possession of technologies to overcome professional destruction 
.Competence is considered as the general ability of a specialist to mobilize in his 
professional activities his knowledge, skills, as well as generalized ways of performing 
actions. 
The professional competence of any teacher should be comprehensive. One can
consider the professional competence of a foreign language teacher, which is the unity of 
such components as key, basic and special competence. The key ones are those competences 
that are necessary for any professional activity. Basic competencies reflect the specificity of 
certain professional activities (pedagogical, medical, engineering). 
Special competence, on the one hand, reflects the specifics of a particular subject area 
of a professional. On the other hand, it is regarded as the implementation of key and core 
competencies in the field of the subject. Thus, the competence of the teacher of a foreign 
language is a special professional competence. 
The basic functions schools are called upon to perform in the framework of 
compulsory education differ according to each situation. However, apart from the specific 
needs of each time period and location, the main mission of a school is to ensure, on the one 
hand, excellent student performance, and on the other, the equal enjoyment of opportunities 
by all students. Schools, especially today, are asked to carry out these functions, taking into 
consideration the challenges of our times, such as multicultural co-existence, the dominance 
of technology, the evolution of the sciences and the rapid renewal of knowledge. At the 
same time, schools aim at preparing students not only for the present, but also for the ever-
changing future.
