THE ROLE OF SURFACTANSIN OBTAINING HIGH-QUALITY COPPER 
CATHODES

At present, low- and high-molecular surfactants are widely used in various industries 
of the republic. One of the main consumers of surfactants are hydrometallurgical 
enterprises of the mining industry, in particular, NGMK, AGMK. The use of 
electrochemical methods in the separation of copper from non-ferrous metals is most 
effective. In this case, the electrochemical reduction of copper is an electrical process in 
which electrical energy is used to separate molten copper in the form of a copper plate 
called the cathode.

In order for the process to run smoothly, specialists will need to constantly monitor the 
concentration of copper in the electrolyte bath. The electrochemical copper refining 
technology uses a copper anode and an inert cathode with compounds. As a result of the 
transfer of electricity from the anode to the cathode, the anode copper melts and descends to 
the cathode in the form of pure metal. The melting of the anode copper is faster than the 
deposition on the cathode, so the concentration of molten copper increases. Electrochemical 
separation is used to keep the concentration of copper in the electrolyte within a certain 
range. 
The use of surfactants based on special additives to the surface of electrodes in baths 
for producing high-quality copper cathodes ensures a high-quality appearance of copper 
cathodes. However, due to the fact that the surface of the electrolyte solution in the baths is 
heated to a certain temperature, the surface of the copper cathodes of the oil darkens as a 
result of the use of primary or secondary oil or technical petroleum products derived from 
petroleum. products in order to prevent the release of odors into the atmosphere. As a 
result, the impact of quality indicators on the output of finished products on the world 
market remains a problem. Therefore, instead of oil, we propose to use surfactants 
(surfactants) and UFM based on local raw materials to improve the efficiency of the 
technological process, the quality of the copper cathode product. SFM not only prevents the 
electrolyte from overheating, but also traps harmful gases and does not harm the 
environment. 
Physico-chemical parameters of the new surfactant are given in table 1.
