Module:	READING III
Topic:	Reading and summarizing a professional article
Time:	80 minutes
Aim:	a) to introduce possible frameworks for making notes while reading professional articles b) to let students practice summarizing a professional article c) to familiarize students’ with different types of professional articles on English language teaching

Activity 1 Reading an article
Objective: to let students identify key points and supporting details while reading a professional article
Time: 45 min
Materials: An article from English Language Teaching Professional, Modern English Teacher or other professional journals on topics of students’ interest
Procedure:

  Tell students that they will experience article discussion of article “-------------------------------”.

  Distribute copies of article and Handout 1 to each student and give them time to read the article and fill in the table in handout 1 individually.

  Divide students into groups of 3/4 and ask them to share their notes in groups. Ask groups to agree on the key points and supporting details as a group.

  Make a transition to the next activity by saying now they will have to summarise the article.
