11 Schlussbetrachtung


12 Overview
The aim of this paper is to show exemplarily, how new media – such as compu-
ter and the internet – can be integrated into the regular subjects in school.
Because of the fact, that the German educational system is strongly regulated in
terms of the content and the time (when something has to be learned), I have to
note the Hessian curricula – which I will describe in detail - whilst plannig a blen-
dend- learning-based English lesson. To get an overview of the theories I can re-
fer to (to prepare my lessons), I‘ll introduce the three most common of the last
century: the behaviourism, the cognitivism and the constructivism. Due to the
fact that constructivism, to my mind, explains best the processes of learning, I
decided to base my lessons on this theory. In the following I‘ll explain how a con-
structive didactic has to be designed – especially in language education. 
It is a fact that media – like computers or the internet – are part of our modern
world. They are used in economy, science, politics, entertainment and also in
educational contexts. To use them expedient, the pupils have to acquire ‚media
literacy‘. I will explain the meaning of this expression and how it is thaught best.
Furthermore, I‘ll highlight the advantages of those media in school and the need
for being proficient in the pupils later profession. In this context, there are seve-
rel expressions that need to be explained (such as multimedia or interactivity).
There are several options to integrate computers in the class room. One of them
is a concept called ‚blended learning‘. Before I‘ll exemplify concrete applications,
this concept will be explained. The use of a ‚learning management system‘ (LMS)
is just one realisation of blended learning. Due to the fact that I intend to use
such an LMS, an explanation of the mandatory features is needed to explain the
special abilities for academic purposes. To make the divers learning management
systems comparable, I‘ll develop a standardised checklist to evaluate them.
At the core of this paper lies a blended-learning-based English lesson, planned
on the theory explained before. After explaining my didactical and methodical
approach, I‘ll analyse and evaluate the lessons with the aid of two questionnai-
res.
