 Threats and outcomes of lost cultural heritage 
Considering the growing demand and the blurring line between cultural tourism 
and modern tourism, it is vital to discuss the threats that cultural tourism is facing. First 
of all it is over commercialization of the cultural heritage sites, which sometimes results 
in the uncontrolled commercialization.
The governments should try to minimize the uncontrolled commercialization. 
However, to control the commercialization, the local government needs certain amount 
of resources (financial, material and human) and here comes the next threat. The lack 
of resources to preserve and save the heritage objects. From one hand global 
community and UNESCO is taking care of heritage sites, but their attention is limited 
with only sites on world heritage list. Because of that list the other heritage sites get 
less attention and the third threat emerges. Societies are indifferent to the heritage sites 
as they do not have any value for the modern society, therefore they consider the 
preserving the cultural heritage as a secondary task. 
Such threats could result in losing the cultural heritage, which consequently will 
be certain negative outcomes. Initially it will impact all generations, present and future. 
It will lead to spiritual poverty, the chasm of historical memory and misery of the

society as a whole. Therefore, it is important to realize that lost of cultural heritage can 
not be compensated neither by the development of contemporary culture or by the 
creation of new masterpieces. Accumulation and preservation of cultural values is the 
basis for the development of civilization.
