Governments have a critical role to play in spearheading the co-development of interoperable standards for intelligent trans- portation systems and platforms. In a dynamic marketplace, vehicles need to have standards that interoperate in any jurisdiction. This role extends both domestically and internationally, including, for example, setting common standards for electronic toll collection within a country, but also including working with the international community to establish common standards to enable vehicles to communicate with one another when they cross borders.
