3. Post-writing

  • Most people think their writing is finished when they write the last word. Unfortunately, this is not the case for writing an advanced academic paper.
  • Once you finish your paper, don't think it is done. Actually, it is not complete yet; you need to proofreadedit, and revise your paper till you are totally satisfied with the final copy which will satisfied your teacher too.
  • Most of time, the first draft is more like a rough draft which may contain grammar errors, logic flaws, style mistakes, or misuse of punctuation. Therefore, in order to make more logical, well-organized, non-errored papers, this stage is necessary. It will help you to identify and correct errors, unconventional use of language, other awkward sentences, and then you will be able to improve your papers for the final result.
  • If possible, take a break before completing this final step of the writing process so you can approach it with fresh eyes and a clear mind. First, read through with a focus on your content. Does it achieve your goal and maintain a focus? 
  • Rewrite, edit, and delete content as necessary, then read through it again to check your organization, transitions, word choice, and sentence and paragraph structure. Make sure it flows and is easy to read. Finally, proofread for punctuation, spelling, grammar, and usage errors. If you can, have another person proofread it a final time.
