Time : 80 minutes
Aim: To teach new vocabulary on the theme crime and punishment
Objectives:
to enrich learners’ vocabulary on the topic crime and punishmentthrough a range of activities
to improve learners’ speaking and writing skills
to encourage learners’ capability of analyzing and understanding of the words for crime and punishment
Pre-stage
A ctivity 1
Objective: to recall information that pupils know on the topic
Time : 10 min Material: blank sheets of paper
Procedure:
1. Teacher asks a question: What is crime? How many types of crime do you know?
2. After getting few answers teacher distributes blank sheets of paper and asks learners to draw a cluster on the words they know about crime in English.
3. After drawing their clusters, learners share their clusters with their peers and discuss the words
While-stage
Activity 2
Objective: to understand new topic
Time : 10 min Material: handout #1
Procedure:
Teacher distributes handout #1 and asks learners to learn new words for today.
After looking through , learners are explained the types of crime by teacher in detail
Activity 3
Objective: to understand new words
Time : 5 min Material: handout #2
Procedure:
Teacher distributes handout #2 and explains the words connected to crime and its punishment.
A ctivity 4
Objective: to apply new words
Time : 15 min Material: -
Procedure:
Teacher asks learners to make up mini-dialogues using the new words with their peers.
After making up, teacher asks learners to read their dialogues.
Activity 5
Objective: to analyze and distinguish new topic
Time : 30 min Material: -
Procedure:
Teacher divides class into 3-4 mini-groups and asks each group to draw a table with 2 columns in which they differentiate the crime and the punishment which is given in Uzbekistan. After finishing the task each group members represent their speech.
Post-stage
Activity 6
Objective: to consolidate and originate the topic
Time : 6 min Material: -
Procedure:
Teacher asks some questions :What do you think which crime is less harmful or the most dangerous to the society? Why ?
After getting some answers , learners are asked another question by teacher : If you could have a chance , what would you change in giving punishment in Uzbekistan ?
Teacher accepts all answers while speaking activity.
Assessment
Time : 2 min
Procedure: Teacher marks learners dividing them into active and passive ones! Passive ones should be encouraged for the next lesson.
Home assignment
Time: 2 min
Material: Handout 3
Procedure: Teacher explains homework:
-to learn by heart new words
- learners as a home assignment are asked to write a short story according to the picture, using the new words they have learned. The story must have creative ending.
