Three decades of women’s history in the United States

In conclusion, US women’s history has been astonishingly successful. It has grown exponentially in size, to become one of the most vital fields in US history. It has expanded in scope, from women to gender (eg everbody), from an implicit focus on the dominant white population to all Americans, and even outward from the US to the rest of the world. The tiny enterprise of women’s history has largely succeeded in integrating into and even more transforming US history. As in all such exercise in integration, women’s history has itself changed, and perhaps experienced some losses within these enormous gains. I have tried to illustrate both to you.
