Do wind plants kill wildlife?
Studies show that wind generators kill far fewer birds than bird collisions with buildings, 
cars or power plants. Conventional fossil fuel energy sources do far more harm to 
animals by destroying their habitat and polluting their environments – not to mention 
their contribution to climate change. Some have also suggested that the productivity 
of farm animals could be reduced by wind farms, but research does not back this up.

damage caused by Chernobyl was greatly exaggerated, as there was not a substantial 
increase in cancers. However, there were reportedly 200,000 coerced abortions in

the wake of Chernobyl, so we cannot know how many of those might have had genetic 
abnormalities.
Do wind plants tolerate extreme weather?
Wind power turbines can be built to operate from –20 to +50 degrees Celsius. Wind 
is often highest in the afternoon in summer, when demand is greatest for air condition
-
ing. Conventional coal-based power plants actually increase extreme weather and its 
impacts (storms, droughts, fires and floods). Wind turbines do not attract lightning as 
they have built-in lightning protection systems. Fire risks of wind farms are low as flam
-
mable parts are high above ground and high-voltage connections are underground.
Are wind plants noisy and ugly?
The noise of modern large wind generators at about 300 metres overhead is about 
that of a home refrigerator. They are certainly arguably less ugly and noisy than nuclear 
or coal-based plants, and the mining that they entail. Some even feel that wind farms 
add visual interest to the landscape. They can also be built offshore. Legislation can 
protect sensitive areas from 
any
development, and few people will live in sight of wind 
power plants. In any case, they can eventually be removed with little damage to the 
environment.
