I. Introduction/ Warm-up (10 mins) |
Warm- up activity (Gallery walk activity)
Ask students to go around the class, look at the pictures displayed beforehand and explore them.
After exploring give questions like What are the pictures? If you studied in one of them, what was it like? If you have never been in one, what do you think it would be like? Let students share their ideas.
Display questions (What is the classroom set up Does it matter how you get well- educated? And when does learning happen?) on the screen and ask students to discuss them. (While they are discussing listen to them attentively, when necessary, give suggestions)
|
II. Main Activity 1 (40mins) |
Ask students to watch the video about the American school system and pay attention to the details.
https://youtu.be/TpdoYhT43rU
After watching the video show on the board questions All schools have rules that must be obeyed. What school rules must Americans obey in their education system? Write their answers on the board.
Grammar- modal verbs+ passive (20 mins)
Explain to students the formation of the topic – Modal Verb + Be + PII
Explain the general rules of passive voice and when we should use them:
-when we do not know who does the action
-when we do not care who does the action
- when we know who does the action but we do not want to say
Give examples like: Steps must be taken immediately; Homework must be submitted by the end of this week. Can the planet be saved?
Encourage students to give their own example sentence by repeating a question What rules must be obeyed in your school?
Tell students to open their google classroom and ask them to do an uploaded worksheet there. Ask students to make the given sentences passive form.
After finishing ask them to read the sentences. (correct if necessary)
Tell your students that we are going to be reading an article about an unusual international school. Give them the article and ask them to read, underline/highlight the unfamiliar words and the grammar (modal verbs+ passive). Give them 7 mins to read and analyze.
After reading the question: Which country’s school system was described in the text?; Why is education seen as important throughout the world? Name two difficulties experienced by those people. Discuss the grammar points too and help students who underlined unfamiliar words.
