11 In this lesson we introduce the change in tense, which normally occurs 11 in English when we report what people say or think.

2. Pre - activity

PP look at the picture and answer the questions:

Who ca you see in the picture?

What are they doing?

PP read the interview and say why Jason is excited

3. Main Part

Activity l Look at the picture and answer the questions.

PP must notice the changes marked as bold in the key. If they can't see the difference at once teacher gives some hints.

Answer key:

Jason said he was very excited because he was going to visit the Lotus factory that day. He said he hoped they would take him for a test-drive in the latest model. He said he was going to interview the Managing Director. He said they have models of the cars. He said they would give him one as a souvenir. He said he was looking forward to his visit a lot.After that teacher explains that the first text is the real interview, and the second one is the reported text of the interview. Explain that in this reported speech the events were true in the past but as the time is over some things may have changed. But using the past shows how things were then.
