Activity 1a Listen and repeat.
Objective: to introduce new vocabulary
PP look at the picture of the animals. PP repeat the words after the CD.
Ask some PP to spell some of the new words. Draw their attention to
the plurals of some nouns.

Activity 1b Answer the questions.
Objective: to practise new vocabulary
Read the questions and ask PP to answer them. Use mother tongue to
explain the meaning and the use of which.
Activity 2 Write how many animals there are in the picture (a).
Objective: to have fun
Explain that this animal in the picture is made up from parts of the body of different animals. Ask them to write animals which they recognise.
Activity 3a Listen and repeat. Answer the question.
Objective: to introduce the word ‘habitat’
Explain to PP that each animal has a habitat in which it lives. They look
at the pictures of different habitats and repeat the new words after the
CD. Draw their attention to the usage of the definite article with the habitats.

Articles are not used before uncountable nouns. Here water is not countable.
Activity 3b Match the animals and habitats.
Objective: to present new vocabulary
Ask PP to look at the animals in Activity 1a and match them with their
habitats in Activity 3b.
Activity 4 Work in pairs. Ask about the animals in activity 1a. Objective: to practise new vocabulary
Divide the class into pairs. Ask PP to ask and answer the questions in turns. They can use the example. Explain that some animals have more than one habitat.
Activity 5 Write about three animals.
Objective: to practise writing about animals
Ask PP to choose 3 animals and write about them in their exercise book.
Activity 6 Work in groups. Draw an animal. Answer the questions. Objective: to give less controlled practice
Divide the class into groups. Ask every pupil to draw an animal or write its name and keep it a secret. PP in their groups should guess the animals by asking questions as in the example. Groups should try to guess every member’s animal.
