DEVELOPING MATERIALS FOR READING CLASSES

Course title: English language

Topic: My family

Students level: Beginner
Time: 25 minutes
Materials: White (black) board, markers, handouts Objectives of the lesson:

-to enrich vocabulary about family members
Activity 1. Answer to the question?
Objectives: - to improve speaking skills
Time: 5 minutes

Materials: a whiteboard, markers

Procedure:
☺(5 min) Teacher writes questions on the board and ask students to answer these questions and share their own opinions about their family members
Can you tell me about your family?
How many people are there in your family?

Who do you like in your family more?


Do you have brothers or sisters?

What does your mother do?


What does your father do?
What sort of thing do you like to do together?
What does your family usually do at weekends?

Activity 2. Family tree
Objectives: - to develop vocabulary
Time: 7 minutes

Materials : Handouts
Procedure:
☺ (5 min) Teacher explains to students to put given family members on right way.

Objectives: - to develop vocabulary
Time: 13 minutes

Materials : Handouts, color pencils
Procedure:
☺ (5 min) Teacher explains to draw their own family tree as an example which was done before.

Activity 1. Simon Says


Objective:


Listening comprehension; Vocabulary; Warming up/winding down class


What to do:



  1. Stand in front of the class (you are Simon for the duration of this game).

  2. Do an action and say Simon Says [action]. The students must copy what you do.

  3. Repeat this process choosing different actions - you can be as silly as you like and the sillier you are the more the children will love you for it.

  4. Then do an action but this time say only the action and omit ‘Simon Says’. Whoever does the action this time is out and must sit down.

  5. The winner is the last student standing.

  6. To make it harder, speed up the actions. Reward children for good behavior by allowing them to play the part of Simon.
