ROLE OF ICT IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE SKILLS

The government of Uzbekistan and educational institutions has been working at various levels and taking measures to ensure better ELT (English Language Teaching) and developing the English language skills or integrated skills among learners. To teach English and develop integrated language skills through different teaching approaches and methods in our country. To tell the truth, so far, most of the methods were traditional, less interesting, not so effective as well as less motivating.

So, it is necessary to use modern approaches and tools of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) to develop better understanding and acquisition of basic skills i.e. Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. ICT has a lot of things to recommend both teachers and language learners for the development of their vocabulary and improvement of English integrated language skills. Now a day’s ICT tools and approaches are being used widely according to their effectiveness. In Uzbekistan high educational schools curriculars include educational modules on language and Information technologies integration at linguistic universities in order future English teachers could integrate information technologies into teaching process.

Modern studies of methodology show positive results of integration of ICT in developing four English language skills. These facilities will pave the way of individualized learning and provide freedom of learning anytime, anywhere according to needs of the learners. So, language teachers should take proper step to integrate ICT in the field of ELT to make the learners well versed in English language skills.

            The modern age is termed as the era of modernization. This explosion is becoming possible due to the progress of science and technology. Each aspect of human life has been changing according to the effects of science and technology. The use of science and technology in the field of communication has influenced on the whole world. Use of modern technological tools has led to the rise of ICT (Information and Communication technology.) Nowadays ICT is being used almost in fields like education, medicine, art, industry, fashion designing, textiles, agriculture etc. It is very important to mention about the advantages of using ICT in our life and with a single click:

- we can get exchange of enough information of the world due to the use of ICT;

- we cannot imagine education without the use of information and communication technology;

- it has made exchange of thoughts, ideas, experiences and feelings easier;

- more and more people can get education and train simultaneously at low cost and now ICT is being used in all the spheres of education;

- use of computers, Internet, television, radio, projectors and mobile phones, e-mail facility, online audio and video conferencing as well as new applications has made the teaching learning process and training attractive and convenient;

- it is also effective in saving one’s time, energy and money.

So, we can say that ICT is playing the most important role not only in learning but in teaching process, also. Hence ICT is also playing an important role in learning foreign languages, especially English Language Learning.

As an important and effective ICT tools and applications used in the field of English language teaching are following:

1. Computers: This is the most important tool of information and communication technology and backbone of modern human life. All the modern communication process is impossible to imagine without the use of computers. It is helpful in storing, preparing, collecting and preparing data for communication. It is very effective in the development of listening and speaking skills. It is useful in English language speaking and listening skills.
