(2007:225) asserts that “the most apparent practical classroom application of functional
description of languages was found in the development of functional syllabuses, more popularly
notional-functional syllabuses.” Brown (2007) uses the term notional-functional syllabus to refer
to the integration of contextualized language functions in curriculum development.
