This bar chart illustrates the number of car journeys into the city made by the residents and non-residents over the ten years period starting from 1996.

Before introducing the parking meters, the number of journeys by the resident was over 9000
per day and was reasonably stable over the next 4 years from 1996. In-contrast, the number of journeys made by the non-resident in this time frame was increasing. The introduction of the parking meters at the beginning of 2000 saw the number of journeys by residents fall dramatically, but it was stable for the non-residents.
In 2003, both the residents and non-resident's number of journeys fall significantly for the closing of Westgate street and park lane. Over the last three years from 2003 to 2005, the number of journeys by residents changed very little, but for non-residents, it was in an upward trend
This graph demonstrates that closing of Westgate street and parking lane had a significant impact on both the resident and non-resident, where the parking meters had on just the residents.
