Introduction
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev chaired a meeting on measures to improve the system of teaching foreign languages on May 6. Several areas of knowledge are determined every year in Uzbekistan, the development of which is given priority attention. This year physics and foreign languages have become such areas. “The time has come to create in Uzbekistan a new system of teaching foreign languages, which will become a solid foundation for the future. Since we set ourselves the goal of building a competitive state, from now on, graduates of schools, lyceums, colleges, and universities must be fluent in at least two foreign languages. This strict requirement should become the main criterion for the work of the head of each education institution,”1 Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
At the end of the 19th century, the period of development of western lands ended in the history of America. By the beginning of the 20th century, the United States had turned from a farming country into a country with a high level of industrial and technical development.
The image of the "American dream" is invisibly present in all American literature of the 20th century. This is one of the traditional themes of the American novel, which at different stages of the development of literature has received different interpretations and assessments.
In the first half of the 20th century, the literature of the United States developed intensively. Such a bright creative personality as Theodore Dreiser declares himself.
The novel "An American Tragedy" is the pinnacle of his work. In the center of the novel is the fate of a young man corrupted by the pursuit of success, for the sake of achieving which he does not stop before a crime.
Topic of the course work: "Debunking the "American Dream" in Theodore Dreiser's novel "An American Tragedy".
Object of study: US literature
Subject of study: the American Dream in Theodore Dreiser's novel "An American Tragedy".
Purpose: to identify the features of the image of the debunking of the American dream in T. Dreiser's "American Tragedy".
Tasks:
Study and analyze sources on the research topic;
Consider the features of the development of US literature in the first half of the twentieth century;
Consider the theme of the "American Dream" in US literature of the twentieth century;
Consider the American dream in the works of T. Dreiser;
Consider the description of the collapse of the American Dream in An American Tragedy.
The following research methods, the method of studying sources, the method of analysis and the method of comparison were used in the work.
The work is structured as follows: introduction, main part, conclusion, list of references. the main part, in turn, consists of two chapters. The first chapter examines the "American Dream" in literature. The second chapter discusses the "American Dream" In "American Tragedy" by T. Dreiser.
The theoretical significance of the study lies in the fact that in the course of the work such issues as the theme of the "American dream" in the literature of the twentieth century were considered.
The practical significance of the study lies in the fact that its results can be used in further work on the topic, as well as material at lectures and seminars.
