Teaching Secondary Students to Write Effectively

Julia Lyskawa, M.P.P., is a researcher at 

Mathematica Policy Research. She currently 

serves as the deputy communications lead 

for the WWC, as well as a certified reviewer. 

She led the panel’s efforts to translate 

research findings into practitioner-friendly 

text for this guide. She has helped develop 

two other practice guides: Teaching Math to 

Young Children and Teaching Strategies for 

Improving Algebra Knowledge in Middle and 

High School Students.

Claire Smither Wulsin, M.P.P., is a research 

analyst at Mathematica Policy Research. 

She helped coordinate the review of studies 

related to the panel’s recommendations and 

helped draft the text of the practice guide. 

She is certified as a WWC reviewer and has 

worked on various other projects focused on 

education, including a survey of online char-

ter schools and an evaluation of the Teacher 

Incentive Fund program.
