Tasks in Cultural Linguistics

2

To’n, zarchopon”

To’n, chopon are synonymic words derived from Persian- Tajik language means long opened male cloth that is worn in daily life of Uzbek people in the countryside in cool and cold weather. Uzbeks usually wear it for wedding parties and funerals. There is a special custom connected with to’n that family members of the bride present to’n to the groom to wear on his happy and sad days.

3

Paranji”

Paranji was a traditional robe of Uzbek women in the past but it is no longer strictly worn, only in some regions girls wear to close their faces in their wedding days going to groom’s house. It was a religious obligation of every Muslim woman when outside the home served to hide their body from top to the leg. It was culturally unacceptable that women were concealed with black horsehair veils and big leather boots covered their feet. Ladies of rank and good character never venture to show themselves in any public place or bazaar. Thus, after Soviet October revolution, wearing paranji was banned and accepted not part of Uzbek culture.

4

Mahsi”

Uzbek footwear mahsi is made of rough leather and rubber. People in rural areas usually wear in cold days: autumn and winter. Other times it is worn on wedding day in Uzbek chimildik. Both groom and bride appear in mahsi and they put off one another. Mahsi is valued in Uzbek culture because it was durable and makes the legs warm.
