2010-11 FY “DRAFT” Work Plan

SGP mission:

The Susquehanna Greenway Partnership is a leading champion for the Susquehanna River Watershed, Pennsylvania’s most important natural asset and the largest tributary to the Chesapeake Bay. We work to advance public and private efforts to connect people with our natural and cultural resources, and promote a sustainable and healthy environment.

Purpose of the Committee:

The Susquehanna Greenway Partnership Water Trail Committee has a primary role in coordinating, developing and promoting the Susquehanna River Water Trail system in Pennsylvania, which forms the “spine” of the Susquehanna Greenway. It has a specific obligation to the Susquehanna River Water Trail - West Branch per its MOU with the NPS.

Objectives:

• 
  Foster environmental stewardship by facilitating and promoting the safe use and interpretation of the Susquehanna River Water Trail system.
  

• 
  Reinforce the Susquehanna Greenway’s regional significance.
  

• 
  Sustain the Susquehanna River Water Trail – West Branch as a Gateway in the Chesapeake Bay Gateways Network.
  

• 
  Explore/ Define SGP’s role in PA Water Trails Partnership and undertake appropriate actions
  

• 
  Explore/Define SGP’s role in extending the John Smith National Historic Trail to the Susquehanna.(SGP will be applicant)
  

 

• 
  Participate in helping define and develop the future PA Water Trail program
  

• 
  Develop recommend polices and procedures to SGP BOD for water trail management (West Branch & System-wide).
  

Tasks for FY 2010-11:

• 
  Convene water trail managers and partners on the Susquehanna River Water Trail on an ongoing basis.
  

• 
  Continue to work in partnership with PEC to help evaluate the current status of Water Trails in the Susquehanna River Water Trail System (PEC provides staffing and coordination of activities, but meetings may happen as part of existing Greenway Partnership structure).
  

• 
  Develop & recommend guidelines and standards for uniform water trail signage.
  

• 
  Review and participate in the development and implementation of the Susquehanna River Water Trail, West Branch Stewardship and Conservation Plan.
  

• 
  Participate in PEC’s evaluation of the Current Status of Water Trails in the Susquehanna River Water Trail System.
  

• 
  Apply for NRT designation for the Susquehanna River Water Trail - West Branch and if designation is received, plan ceremony or event during June 2011.
