6.2 Environmental and Sustainability Considerations
As the field progresses, it will be crucial to balance innovation with environmental responsibility. The production of superhydrophobic cotton fabrics should be conducted in a manner that minimizes ecological impact and promotes sustainability. This includes considering the lifecycle of these fabrics, from the sourcing of raw materials to disposal at the end of their useful life. Researchers will need to strive for techniques that are not only effective but also environmentally friendly. This may involve the use of bio-based or recyclable materials, as well as processes that minimize energy consumption and waste production.
6.3 Other Challenges
One of the main challenges in the field of superhydrophobic cotton fabrics is the durability of the superhydrophobic coating. Current superhydrophobic coatings rely on delicate micro or nano structures for their repellence, and these structures can easily be damaged by abrasion or cleaning​ [22]​.
