PRESS RELEASE
Issued on behalf of Kent Music
May 2012
STILL TIME TO BOOK FOR KENT MUSIC SUMMER SCHOOL
A limited number of places are still available at July’s Kent Music Summer School for students aged from 8 to 19 to improve their skills and make new friends in a harmonious, creative environment.
The Kent Music Summer School offers a range of residential courses at Benenden School, set in 240 acres of Kent countryside near Cranbrook. Anyone can apply for a place and there are no auditions. Children are placed in consultation with their music teacher, taking account of their experience and ability.
More than 1,000 young people can develop their musical talents using purpose-built facilities, playing in wind bands, symphony orchestras, string orchestras, jazz ensembles and recorder groups. Everyone who takes part is encouraged to sing in the course chorus and each course culminates in a concert for family and friends.
Phill Hyde, who manages the summer school, said: “Many young people have already registered for this year’s summer school but there’s still time to book. Those who attend really flourish in an atmosphere of encouragement, expertise and enjoyment. It’s a great setting to make friends with similar interests.”
New this summer is the chance for children aged 12 to 19 to join a Musical Theatre Singing Course, in which they spend three days exploring the art of singing music from the stage and theatre.
The summer school has been running for more than 60 years and tutors are professional musicians of the highest quality, including members of major orchestras such as the world-renowned Philharmonia Orchestra.
When students aren’t rehearsing, there’s plenty to do with a wide range of recreational facilities, including a swimming pool, tennis and squash courts as well as an on-site shop. Students are provided with mainly individual rooms, high-quality catering, and are looked after by a team of experienced supervisors, qualified nurses and lifeguards.
