South Australian Dressage Association Inc
Newsletter February/March 2016
www.southaustraliandressageassociationinc.weebly.com
We are well and truly underway to a great year of competitions, our February competition was well attended and proved to be a fun and relaxing day out. Photographs from the day can be found under the Gallery tab on our website. Results can be found in this newsletter.
March had to be cancelled due to the hot weather forecast; and glad we missed riding in the torrential rain too! All entries for March will be carried forward to April 3rd at Mount Crawford, unless we hear from you. Full refund or credit is available. Please let the Secretary know. New entries will also be accepted for this competition.
This year there will be a new look membership card and a brochure with all the general details about how the club is run. We hope you will find this useful.
There will still be newsletters to keep you up to date with what’s happening and these will be posted on the website. Rather than emailing the newsletter or texting everyone, which is quite time consuming, make sure you keep an eye out on the facebook page where the posting of the newsletter will be announced. We would like to make more use of our facebook page as this is how many clubs now communicate with their members. Make sure you have “liked” our page. Also you can find competition information on the Dressage calendar of www.myaushorse.com.au.
Membership fees – Membership fees are now due for renewal, there is a new membership form on our website with revised fees. Be sure to sign the waiver too. Those members who joined after 1st September 2015 will have their membership extended to December 2016 and a new card will be issued.
Moving Forward – for those of you who order their copy of Moving Forward through the club, there was a move to change this to an online publication. However, this has been shelved for now.
Volunteers – we will need lots of help at the April competition as some of the committee will be away. Those of you who ticked the April date will be contacted soon. The more volunteers we have, the less everyone has to do. We plan to set up a roster of duties for each event so that members can add in their names on the day if there is a space to be filled and they will be free to help.
Scoring – SADA now owns it’s own laptop and therefore there will be at least two if not three computers on the day for inputting scores. Volunteers are sought to do this – it is not hard and training will be given beforehand if you can let the Secretary know that you are available. April will be four arenas with multiple judges so even if you can help out for an hour or two, it gives someone else a break.
First Aid Officer – this is another area where we need more volunteers. Anyone with a basic first aid certificate can help out by being on stand-by in case there is an incident.
Pencilling - this is an excellent way to learn what the judges are looking for and will hone your skills as a competitor. Obviously you cannot pencil if you are still to ride before a judge, but pencilling after your test is acceptable. Training is available.
Gear Checking – this is an official requirement and not hard to do. Training is available and sheets with the regulations are provided. It is also a fun way to interact with the riders and feel part of the event if you are not riding that day.
Canteen – we are still looking for someone to be responsible for this. It is only run at the GRPC events. We are no longer allowed to “cook” anything so the only food will be cakes/biscuits etc plus Subway sandwiches which are brought into the site. Coffee and tea are “help yourself” and drinks are in the fridge. Helping out for an hour or two would be greatly appreciated. Suggestions for mobile services at Mount Crawford are being sought now as we would like to get them booked ahead for the year.
Next Competitions
3rd April 2016 at Mount Crawford Dressage Club
New entry form available on the websites. Entries close 2 weeks prior to competition
Please note that if you are an Amateur Owner Rider, there is a box to tick on the entry form
Tests for 2016
Prep E and C
* Please note there is no separate classes for Standardbreds as previously mentioned, sorry for any confusion
Prep ‘E’ is the old ‘B’ as ‘B’ is now in a 20 x 40 arena and ‘E’ is the same movements in the usual 20 x 60 arena.
All other levels are 1’s and 3’s
Announcer – we hope to employ the services of a professional announcer for the Mount Crawford competitions where we usually have 3 to 4 arenas running at once. However, if you fancy a go at announcing at GRPC all you need is a clear voice and the ability to use binoculars to check horse numbers!

Got something to sell? Advertise here for free!
Quiet Standardbred for sale (Jessie), 6 yo, bay mare unraced. Very easy to handle on the ground, loves attention and carrots and would be suitable for a beginner rider to potter around on. She does not canter and after 8 months’ training I don’t think she ever will, hence the only reason she is being sold. Knowledgeable home is essential. She had a foal 2 years ago with no trouble, was a great mum and he had her quiet temperament too. $1,000 ono. Phone Jan on 0408 835 248 or email janboyd@chariot.net.au.
