MUSICAL PRELUDE

PROCESSIONAL: (ZSS 62) “Jesus the Light of the World”
PRAISE & WORSHIP: Elder Joan Leggett
PRAYER OF PRAISE:

O Shepherd of Israel, from whom comes forth one who shall feed your flock, we gather as those who dwell in the folds of your embrace and care. Your love envelops us like swaddling cloths wrapped around a babe in a manger. Your countenance shines like a star that led the wise men one night. We behold your radiance as we enter your sanctuary and praise your name for the Christ who brings us salvation Amen.

*CALL TO WORSHIP: Psalm 80

Leader: Give ear, O shepherd of Israel. Stir up your might, and come to save us!

People: Restore us, O God; let your face shine that we may be saved.
Leader: With joy you will give thanks to the Lord and call on God’s name.

Leader: Let us worship God!

*OPENING HYMN #31 “Hark, the Herald Angels Sing”

INVOCATION (please be seated) Elder Arthur Clarke

THE LORD'S PRAYER

THE LIGHTING OF THE FOURTH ADVENT CANDLE - ANNUNCIATION

Kirkwood Allen: “He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever” (Luke 1:32-33a).

Harvey Sherrod: As the angel voices announce the coming of the Son of God, so we hear God’s promises and we surrender ourselves to God’s direction.
Kirkwood Allen: Last week we lit the third candle, the Candle of waiting. Before that , we lit the candle of anticipation and the candle of preparation. (Light three purple candles in the Advent wreath.)
Harvey Sherrod: Today we light the fourth candle, the candle of annunciation. We hear angel voices telling us of the coming of the Christ Child, just as shepherds did years ago.

(Light the last purple candle.)

ALL: So often we are unable to hear God’s word for us because we are occupied with other things. Sometimes we do not hear because of the level of noise we create for ourselves. We pray for silence on our part, so we can hear your words for us today and obey. Amen.

CALL TO CONFESSION
PRAYER OF CONFESSION: (unison)

Most holy God, in Christ you pour out your mercy to forgive our transgression. Hear us now as we confess our sin. We err in our judgment of what you want from us. We seek to appease you with offerings, earn your favor by doing good deeds, or garner a blessing through making some sacrifice. Forgive us our nature that is prone to buy favor, and in Christ restore us to a right relationship with you.Amen.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON:

Leader: Micah foresees the Coming One, who shall stand and feed the flock. The people shall dwell secure in the majesty of God’s name. Christ is our peace, and we can dwell secure in the knowledge that through him we are forgiven. Amen.

GLORIA PATRI

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH: Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE GREAT COMMISSION

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Amen Matthew 28: 18-20
