The result turned out to be quite satisfactory. The travel time is quite reliable for both directions. Most of the travel times have very close number but there are still some extreme cases. The bad weather may be part of the reason. It has rained heavily for several days during the data collection period and it took longer time for the trains to travel. What’s more, trains of Northeast Corridor Line have to stop and let Amtrak trains go first if two trains meet between the stations. And the train sometimes had some minor mechanical problems and it would not restart service until the problem has been solved.
Schedule optimization
After the analysis of the schedule and the assessment of the reliability of the arrival time and travel time, it can be concluded that the overall performance of following the schedule and keeping the travel time in control is quite good. To improve the current schedule, there are two different scenarios. One is that trains follow the schedule strictly and the other one is that there are several cases of cancellation or delay.

The first Scenario: Follow the schedule strictly.
If trains can run exactly as the schedule shows, only some changes to the schedule are needed and a demand responsive schedule is not quite necessary here. The goals of revising the schedule are to reduce the zero waiting time cases so that it reduces the possibility of missing the corresponding train and to reduce the waiting time and its variance.
