Initially therefore, it is essential to understand the extent and prevalence of stress. While it is clearly understood to be a problem in some sectors, occupations, and professions, it should be recognized that stress has the potential to exist – and indeed does exist – across all sectors, industries, and national and social cultures. It is essential that organizations, managers, and individuals understand the costs that are attached to it, and the benefits of understanding, recognizing, and addressing stress successfully and effectively.
