elektronlarning valent sathdan va aralashmalar hisobiga hosil bo’lgaan energetik sathidan o’tkazuvchanlik zonasiga va valentlik zonasidan aralashmalar energetik sathiga o’tishi natijasida harakatchan elektron va kovaklarning hosil bo’lishiga ichki fotoelektrik effekt deb yuritiladi.
Ko’p sonli tajribalar, qorong’ulikdagi o’tkazuvchanlikda ishtirok eta oladigan elektron va kovaklarning harakatchanligi bilan yorug’lik ta’si–rida hosil bo’lgan elektron va kovak–larning harakatchanligi bir-birlariga teng ekanligini ko’rsatdi.
Yarimo’tkazgichning biror sirtiga yorug’lik tushsa, o’sha sirtiga yaqin joyda qo’shimcha zaryad tashuvchilar generatsiyalanadi. Natijada, yarimo’tkazgichda zaryad tashuvchilarning taqsimoti buzilib, kontsentratsiya gradienti vujudga keladi. Bu qo’shimcha zaryad tashuvchilar yoritilgan sirt tomonidan yarimo’tkazgich ichkarisiga tomon diffuziyalanadi. Binobarin, yoritilgan sirt oldida va shu bilan birga yarimo’tkazgich ichkarisida ham musbat va manfiy zaryadlar bir-birlarini neytrallolmaydilar. Agar yoritilgan sirt oldida musbat zaryadlar manfiy zaryadga nisbatan ko’p bo’lib qolsa, bu sohada musbat, yarimo’tkazgichning o’sha sirtidan ichkari sohasi esa manfiy zaryadlanib qoladi. Bu esa yarimo’tkazgichda hajmiy elektr maydonni vujudga keltiradi. Shunday qilib, yarimo’tkazgichda elektr maydon va EYUK hosil bo’ladi.
