Health and Wellness Series at

Luzerne-Wyoming Counties Area Agency on Aging Active Adult Centers


  • 10 Keys to Healthy Aging” at the Edwardsville Active Adult Center

    • Learn about the following topics: lowering systolic blood pressure, stopping smoking, cancer screenings, immunizations, regulating blood glucose, lowering LDL cholesterol, being physically active, maintaining healthy bones, joints, and muscles, maintaining social contacts, combating depression. Also, speak with APPRISE counselors about free or low cost benefits for those who qualify, through the Low Income Subsidy Program and Medicare Savings Program.

      • Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am-11:30am beginning September 3rd and ending October 3rd.

  • Pilates for Core Conditioning at the Kingston Active Adult Center

    • Strengthens and lengthens muscles, improves posture and strengthens abdominal muscles. Uses standing and mat exercises with modifications shown. Please bring a mat, blanket or towel for floor exercises.

    • Mondays at 9am August 4th-September 15th

  • H.I.T.T. at Rose Tucker Active Adult Center

    • “Boosts exercise capacity and fat-burning potential through rest-based training. An interval program using light weights and low impact aerobics.”

    • Thursdays at 2:45pm August 14th-September 18th

  • Boot Camp at CTA on Public Square in Wilkes-Barre

    • A combination of low-impact aerobics with weight-lifting exercises similar to circuit training.”

  • Yoga at the Pittston Active Adult Center

  • American Lung Association “Freedom from Smoking” Smoking Cessation Program

    • An 8 week interaction and support group program led by Active Adult Center Staff that are ALA Certified Smoking Cessation group leaders. This group will help people quit smoking by helping to maintain their motivation and commitment. Each session will last 90 minutes to 2 hours, and participants will learn ways to help them through the difficult process of quitting smoking.

    • Please note that this program is offered to anyone interested in quitting smoking, regardless of age. There is no cost for those age 50+. If anyone would like to participate and is under 50 years of age, there is a $25.00 fee to cover the cost of their program supplies.

      • Workshops will be held from 9:30am-12:00pm on:
