Scene II. On the road. (On the way home he met a Fox who was lame and a Cat who was blond.)
Fox: Good day, Pinocchio!
Pinocchio: You know my name, but I don’t know you.
Fox: I know your farther well.
Pinocchio: Where did you see him?
Fox: I saw him yesterday at the door of his house.
Pinocchio: And how was he?
Fox: He had no coat on, and he was cold.
Pinocchio: Poor Papa! Soon he won’t be cold.
Fox: Why not?
Pinocchio: Because I have a lot of money now.
Fox: A lot of money – you? (The Fox and the Cat began to laugh.)

Pinocchio: First, I want to buy a new coat for my Papa. Then I’ll buy a school-book.
Fox: What for?
Pinocchio: I want to go to school.

Cat: Look at me! I lost my eyes because I learned at school.
Fox: Do you want to have more money?
Pinocchio: Oh, yes, but how?
Fox: Do not go home! Come with us and we’ll show you how.
Pinocchio: And where shall we go?
Fox: You will see.
Pinocchio: No, I shall not go with you. I shall go home to my Papa, he is waiting for me.
Fox: Well, then, go home with your five gold pieces. But if you want to have two hundred gold pieces, come with us.
Pinocchio: But how can I have them?
Fox: I shall tell you. We shall go to a field. In this field you must make a little hole and put into it one gold piece. Then you must throw some earth into the hole and make a small hill. After that throw some water on the hill. At night you can go to bed. And the gold pieces will grow. In the morning you will get up and come back; and what will you find? You will find a beautiful tree with many gold pieces on it.
