Toronto East LIP- Fact Sheet III

  • Toronto East’s1 population decreased 5.5% from 2001 to 2006 to 152,000 people.

  • Toronto East’s population is 48.7% male and 51.3% female.

  • Population change rates vary by age groups.

  • The fastest growing five year age group was 55-59 year olds. The greatest decline from 2001 to 2006, were 30-34, and 35-39 year olds.

  • Population change rates also vary by neighbourhood. The table below highlights these changes according to clusters.2

  • The number of people living alone is the highest in Broadview at 16.5% and the lowest in Massey Creek at 11.2%.




  • The structure of the family in Toronto East continues to change. While the number of common-law families and lone parent families increased, the number of married couple families experienced a decline between 2001 and 2006.

  • Central Riverdale has the highest percentage of lone parent households. 25% of families with children are single parent family in this cluster.

  • The percentage of lone parent households is 22.9% in Crescent Town, 24% in Massey Creek, and 21.5% in Broadview-East York.

2 We identified four clusters in Toronto East where the number of immigrants is the highest: Broadview-East York, Central Riverdale, Crescent Town and Massey Creek/O’Connor- Parkview.
