Happy New Year!

To all Parents, Carers & Friends of BOSH, WHOSH, BOSH4, BOSH5, and BOSH8 Out of School Hours Clubs.

Welcome to another edition of News and Views – a news sheet that updates you on happenings at the breakfast and after school clubs run by the BOSH team. This is one way for us to communicate with you. See contact details at the end of ‘News and Views’. If you would like to contribute an article or letter to be published in a future edition, we would be pleased to include it.

BOSH5 (Rolls Crescent Primary School, Hulme)

BOSH 5 is now a thriving and growing scheme and our team there is caring for 20 – 33 children each evening. Jenny Simpson has proved to be an excellent Play Manager this last year at the club. She is supported now by Harmeet Kaur (level 3 and former Play Manager at WHOSH), Raheela Khan (level 3), Fayaaq Mohammed (an experienced Play Worker) and Eddie Ashton (currently taking level 2 in Play Work).

BOSH8 (Broad Oak Primary School, East Didsbury): Kaleem and Sajida continue to run the club at Broad Oak. This PM/PW duo do an excellent job by providing a calm and consistent approach to after school care. The club moved to a new space recently due to the building works and has access now to two different areas for outdoor play.
BOSH4 (St. Hilda’s Primary School, Stretford/Firswood): The decision to return to school after a few months operating elsewhere has been a good one. The children now have good outdoor playing space. Although the hall is available for play sometimes, the space behind the stage is not ideal and we have been promised more suitable accommodation when it is available. We have had some unavoidable staff changes in 2014 -Amrit Singh (Play Manager) is away on maternity leave (Congratulations on the birth of her son). Rachel Sherwin was a popular replacement but has unfortunately moved on now to new things. We are delighted, however, to welcome Daniel Ratcliffe as the new Play Manager at BOSH4. Daniel has a degree in Early Childhood Studies and comes from our BOSH5 club and holiday clubs. Daniel has already proved himself to be a popular and competent Play Manager.

Another (!) special thanks must go to the BOSH 4 Play Worker Raj Singh who has been the constant presence at the club throughout and a great support to management.

WHOSH (William Hulme’s Grammar Junior School, Whalley Range): WHOSH is now our smallest club (average 8 children per eve). We welcome back Raheela (who started her career at BOSH here at WHOSH 6 years ago) to support Khurshid who continues to provide a very good service at the club. They will be supported by Anna Hillock our Senior Play Manager now she has returned from maternity leave.
BOSH (Brookburn Primary School, Chorlton): BOSH at Brookburn is still our most well used and busy club. Places at the club are in high demand this academic year and we have had to start to operate a WAITING LIST. Catherine and her team of 7 Play Workers each evening do a fantastic job to ensure the children are happy, safe and engaged during their time at BOSH.

A special thanks goes to Kim for standing in as Deputy Play Manager when Catherine is away and generally supporting Cath and the club so reliably and consistently for (yet) another year. Well done and thanks too to Anna for organising various charity events to raise money for Children-in-Need.

N.B Could we politely remind parents/carers not bring children to breakfast club until its opening time (7.45a.m) please and to collect children promptly at/before 6p.m. After 6p.m the parents/carers will be charged a Late Fee. Thanks.

STAFF TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT

Our Play Managers and Play workers are continually updating their qualifications and skills in line with our organisation’s objectives and OFSTED requirements.

FEB HALF TERM HOLIDAY CLUB (16^th Feb – 20^st Feb)

The BOSH half term holiday club will take place at WHGS (William Hulme’s Junior School in Whalley Range) details and registration should now be done using your website login on the BOSH website.

PLACES/WAITING LIST

There are currently spare places available every day at all the clubs except BOSH on Thursdays. Please let Play Managers Catherine Brookburn), Kaleem (Broad Oak), Raheela or Khurshid (WHOSH) Jenny (BOSH5) or Daniel (BOSH4) know if you would like any extra sessions for your child(ren). Places are open to any pupil at a School from age 3. Play Managers direct contact mobile numbers listed at end of this Newsletter.

VOLUNTEERS/SUPPLY PLAY WORKERS..spare time/new career!? If you or anybody you know would like to be considered as either a volunteer (unpaid) or supply Play Worker (paid) at BOSH, please could you fill in an application form (find on our website and return to us) or email [e-mail]. We recruit more volunteers and ‘bank’ staff in an ongoing way to cover absences/maternity leave etc. Normal hours 3-6p.m. All potential staff/volunteers will be interviewed and fully DBS checked before being allowed to work with the children. This would be excellent experience for a school age child (16 and over) and impressive on a CV/university application form!

Calling ALL parents/carers and friends – if you have ANY old material – curtains, sheets, etc. or even any old usable toys/bikes, then all our Play Managers would be delighted to take them off your hands and put them to good use! Please just hand them to a BOSH member of staff, all will be gratefully received!!
